Director’s Note:
It is with a great sense of pride that I write these few words for “…. Spelling Bee.”
I am very grateful to Dr. Deirdre Masterson of The American College, Dublin for asking me to direct this piece. It is an enormous responsibility, which I take very seriously, to be charged with a show that will be the students’ last opportunity to present themselves to industry professionals – before they stride purposefully into the theatrical workforce.
I would also like to thank Tony Norton and all at ACD for their kindness to me during this production.
The 4th year students have worked so hard on bringing you this presentation of William Finn’s most ‘unusual, zany and manic’ musical. We have had many laughs during the rehearsal process, and we hope that their performances this evening make you experience some of that fun.
I’d like to thank all the students (on, back and fore stage) who have helped in so many ways on this production; as well as the professionals who have given so much to making our ‘Spelling Bee’ worthy of an audience.
Finally, thanks to Daniel Nolan (Production Manager/Stage Manager), Emer Haughton (Choreographer) and Conor McCarthy (Music Director) for their camaraderie, expertise and talent.
Please enjoy the madness…..
